Workshop options (select two):
Telling the story and engaging the community – learn how to engage with the wider public to build trust and prevent misconceptions about dairy farming. Plus learn what media and the public really think about farmers.
Policy and advocacy uncovered – go behind the scenes in the policy and advocacy space, learn how you are being represented at a local and national level. Get an update on Essential Freshwater, Zero Carbon Bill and He Waka Eke Noa.
Tried and tested: taking action to reduce your footprint – some farms have achieved up to 34% reduction in N leaching. Hear tips from local farmers about how they have reduced their environmental footprint while retaining profitability. What results have they achieved? What’s worked and what hasn’t? Also find out how you can measure and lower your carbon footprint.
Autumn calving - Thinking of transitioning from spring to autumn calving? What happens when the whole herd is transitioned at once? Come and hear the provisional biophysical results of the Kavanagh Farm trial comparing a steady state spring-calved herd with a herd that has transitioned from spring calving to autumn calving. Milk production, days in milk, 6-week in-calf rate, liveweight, body condition score, pasture growth and supplementary feed use comparisons between the two farmlets will be presented.
